1 – Peyton Manning – Manning is arguably one of the best quarterbacks of our time, and is the standard by which other quarterbacks are measured.
2 – Tom Brady – Manning and Brady are often interchangable at 1 and 2 when it comes to best active quarterbacks, but coming off knee surgery, he has to prove that he still has it.
3 – Drew Brees – There are three elite quarterbacks in the NFL, and Drew Brees ranks right up there with Manning and Brady as the best in the biz.
4 – Kurt Warner – Despite his age, he can still sling the pigskin with the rest of ‘em. I expect he has a few years left before he sees any statistical drop in production.
5 – Ben Roethlisberger – Having won 2 Super Bowl’s merits his inclusion among the game’s elite, but Ben has some a way to go to bust into the top 3.
6 – Philip Rivers – Rivers has what it takes to be an excellent quarterback, and he proved that last year, by carrying the Chargers offense. Now if only their defense could live up to the hype, they could contend for a title.
7 – Eli Manning – Eli stepped out of his big brothers shadow a few years ago when he and the Giants put an end to the Patriots perfect season, but he struggled without Plaxico. He will bounce back with the new receivers at his disposal this year.
8 – Carson Palmer – Palmer has the talent to be a top 5 quarterback if he stays healthy, but leading the Bengals is a tough task.
9 – Donovan McNabb – McNabb is still a great quarterback, but he is starting to show his age a bit. He still has a few years to go before he starts to decline.
10 – Matt Hasselbeck – Hasselbeck is often overlooked as a great quarterback because he doesn’t put up the gaudy numbers that Manning, Brady, and Brees do, but that was mainly because Holmgren didn’t play that way. But make no mistake. Hasselbeck has the talent to succeed.

How can this list be complete without Brett Favre?

I am just glad you didn’t put Romo in this mix…

@dj – How could I? He wouldn’t be in my top 15, and probably not in my top 20 either.

@Joe – Favre isn’t on the list because he is still officially retired, and since this list is of active players, he doesn’t qualify.

You sir are a moron, and obviously unable to write an unbiased ranking. Any sane person knows that Romo is a top 5 fantasy QB. In any sensible draft, he’d be the 3rd/4th QB taken after Brees and Brady. When healthy, he put up big fantasy numbers.

@Skizza – My biggest complaint about Romo is that he isn’t consistent. He never has been, and until he is, I would take any of the ten mentioned above, and a few that I didn’t mention over Romo. Besides, this isn’t a Top 10 Fantasy QB list, it is a list of the best 10 QB’s in the league.

I was just reading this for the first time and think the picks are accurate. I do agree with Skizza that Romo is in the top 5 fantasy picks – it’s everyone’s fantasy that he would actually be a great quarterback. Sorry, I couldn’t resist throwing that out there.
The only other one I would add to the list after watching this NFL season is Joe Flacco. I’ve seen him do some great things this year, even though his team didn’t make it to the Super Bowl. They did take down some giants though.
